Decatur Veterinary Clinic

My husband and I just rescued a basset hound from the streets. Wanted to get him updated on all his shots and make sure he was in good health. We went on a Friday at around 10 and weren’t seen for quite awhile. We unfortunately had bad news, our new baby was heartworm positive. The veterinarian was super nice and talked to us about the whole treatment process. Even wrote us up an estimate for cost and to my surprise was a lot cheaper than most places we had been too. We will be returning for treatment at the end of January and bringing my other hounds up here for their yearly shots. Thank you Decatur Vet clinic, even though it was a wait it was well worth it to talk to someone that actually cared about our pet and also didn’t want to charge us an arm and leg for our baby to get the care he deserves.

***update i will reach out but most of the reapose ESPECIALLY about me saying sorry repeatedly are, in fact, false. I find it very funny the amount of detail given and it was very much untrue. And the "more comments" was in fact the receptionist calling me a bad dog parent. Unbelieve response instead of owning up to it. The receptionist was kind when making the appt. When we got there to check in when I have never been here before everything went fine. Was asked to wait in the car. No problem. Waited hours again not that big of a deal. But then it was my dogs turn to go in. I couldn't go with her. Fine. Then there was a mix up with my dogs x-rays at the emergency vet who so graciously did them for free. But when the emergency vet does them for free we learned they get put under a "Jane doe" dog so your dogs name doesn't get tagged with it and billed. Well I went in to let the front receptionist know what had happened and I was met with "must be nice" with an eye roll. And I'm here to say. I was laid off from my job 3 months ago. My husband and I are still recovering from the winter freeze back in 2021. I had to say goodbye to 3 family members and pay for funerals. I am NOT a bad dog owner. I've just had really bad circumstances happen this year. When checking out the receptionist, while I was bawling my eyes out because I had to put my dog down. Still had more smart comments to say. Do better. The vet was nice enough. I get you see a lot but, my husband was trying to ask questions and you kept Intrupting him. And also didn't give me the same information you gave him.

I have been using this vet for 5 years now. Dogs and Goats never had an issue until today. I called prior to taking my dogs in for their yearly shots and asked how much it would be. she quoted me the price for their shots and additional price for the rabies, I am totally fine with this I asked how much to drain the glands, she quoted me the price on that, great. I then asked how long the wait is she said if I come now 15 minutes great still happy. I get there and asked to give one of my dogs some Benadryl since he always has an allergic reaction to his shot, yes, I know this is an additional charge let's do it. The new lady at least new to me asks what we are doing as I am checking them in, I stated their shots, rabies and glands. She starts spouting off these shots I said yeah, their shots they get them yearly clearly shows in their charts. Well needless to say those were additional charges and ended up costing me 200 more than quoted on the phone. I questioned it and yes, I was not happy then DR. Smith which I have never met or seen decided she was going to come out and be argumentative. I clearly told her to go argue with someone else. I love the way my animals are loved by Jessie and Mariah and the other two doctors. My only complaint is I did not know there were addition shots outside the regular shots and did not know they were that much more. The communication was not there, and it cost me dearly. Dr Smith well she is either a very unhappy, argumentative person or having a bad day either way she is not my cup of tea, and I will not deal with her ever again.

Ive never been to a veterinariany like this before. When you arrive leave pet in car, go to the left side with the 2 doors, The right side of building is check in to do surgery. I got there early and waited in the wrong area and by the time i was pointed to the right place the line of zero turned into a line of 15. This place is slow like fill out paperwork at counter and everyone behind you waits kind of slow. There was a lot of staff but only 1 person checking in/out dogs so it can be painfully slow and frustrating, after check in You wait in your car. you have to talk to the vet through the tech. I only spoke to the vet because my dog ended up needing emergency surgery. Otherwise i feel i probably wouldnt have seen the veterinarian. They took out a bunch of trash out of my dogs stomach kept him 3 days, bought a cone and 10 days worth of dog food for my 100 pound puppy and the cost was around $1,300. The fact the same thing happened to a coworker a few years ago and cost her $5000 in town, we did not hesistste to see the value of what we got for what we paid. If you have an emergency that you dont have alot of money to spend on and have the patience this is the place to go.
